We're at Mott's Children Hospital 5west. They just put Rickie's IV in-NOT too happy. I have to say she was great, considering Rickie was screaming at the top of his lungs and three nurses were laying on top of him. It's around 9ish and I will be back tomorrow. Port put in Monday:(

Look over to the right and you will see an icon for grand central-it's really cool you click on it and put your phone# in it and it will contact me! For free! So yeah-call if you want.

Update on Rickie

I decided to update on my blog...a lot easier than e-mailing everyone:) I'm waiting for a call from the hospital to let me know when a bed becomes available. The doctors were not pleased at all with Rickie's PFT yesterday. The middle airways are only functioning at 30% (not good). He will have a port put in Monday so that they can access his IV meds and draw blood as well. That's a good thing, Rickie hates to be poked! I think they will leave it in for years as long as it's taken care of properly by moi. He will be getting intense therapy, meaning a lot during the day a long with his medications. Schooling is scheduled as well-he doesn't get out of that one! On a more serious note, please say a prayer, or send positive thoughts for Rickie. Our family is very concerned with this recent knowledge of his middle airways. I will try to update daily.

TIME or lack of it!

This is way back to 1966...a picture of me and my parents. We were at my Aunt Marion's and Uncle Dutch's house. It's so cool to look back and see how much your own children look like you did as a child. I think I was pretty cute. I was 7 years old there. I'm sure my parents would look at that picture and say boy, it seems like yesterday you were that age. I find myself saying the same to my kids. Time is such a fleeting thing-we never have enough of it and yet were all waiting for something (in the future) I can't wait until such and such, we've all said it.

I think I'll just enjoy the time we have and not worry so much about tomorrow or fret about what I didn't do in the past. Because, we have all heard that the present is a present!

Love, Carey

p.s. That is my Uncle bill in the picture!

From Ali (cleaning out desk )

:I was cleaning out my desk this evening and I came across this story Ali wrote for me

A Beautiful Mess (for Rickie, a beautiful mess maker...and, of course, his Mother)

She stood at the threshold of his room, her legs unwilling to enter. His little mind, his little fingers, beautiful in their own right, had created this beautiful mess, and now, as she stood with each hand supporting her frame in the frame of his doorway, she remembered that she had to destroy it.

She sighed.

Through the windows, beams of evening light created glitter as they passed through the dust he had created with sand and baby powder. The glitter was also ground into his blue carpeting, on his trains, and like the fine dust of a butterfly's wings, it rested gently on the heads of two sleeping dolls.

Earlier in his play, when he had been less gentle, his little legs had stood on top of chairs and tables, distributing stickers to every inch of his walls. The walls of h is room were white, and his stickers popped with color, smiling like the tender buds of a spring garden still covered with its winter blanket.

And so again, the mother sighed. What was she to do but destroy this spring garden? Wipe off the dust of the butterfly's wings? In creating order, she would have to desecrate the magic of her son's room, and as she took her first tentative step into his haven, she realized that no other picture would ever capture his imagination, his beauty so clearly as this room, his beautiful mess.

Thank you Ali. I'm glad I cleaned out my desk tonight.

I'll try again...

I just wrote the most fantastical post! And, I lost it! Basically, I was saying that I would talk another time about Rickie's diagnosis.

I wanted to focus on hope in this post. When I see a butterfly it brings me hope and wonderment! Just think about what the butterfly has to go through to become a butterfly... caterpillar (we called them fuzzy wuzzys) and then the cocoon stage or hibernation of sort. After, it's slept for a while and gone through the metamorphosis waa laaa a beautiful butterfly!

All kidding aside-we always have hope God gives it to us we just need to take notice!

Goodnight guys!

Well, here's two pictures of our wonderful guy! It's been a long time since anyone's been here or posted. As most of you know Rickie was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis last October. finally some answers to why he's been so sick. Last October Rickie was really sick-when Chloe picked him up at school, he came out and just put his head into her chest. Chloe's 11 and very motherly to him. When he got home his temperature was 103.6-he never has a fever. He was coughing as he always does and just miserable. I took him to the Doc's and they gave him an antibiotic and said more than likely it was the flu and he has bronchitis. He got over the flu thing and the cough never went away. (he's been coughing his entire life) One evening he coughed until 3o'clock in the morning. I took him back to the doctor's and I refused to leave the room. I said "I'm not leaving here until you tell me why he does not stop coughing!" Somethings wrong find it! She left the room for a while and came back and said, "We're going to test Rickie for Tuberculosis and cystic fibrosis"

Stomach in the mouth! Flash back in the doctor's office Rickie was around 3-4months old...sick again you think Rickie could have CF? Oh no, he looks too good. I still thought he had it.

Well, needless to say we went to St.John's Hospital and had a sweat test done. Mom and Dad had come up that week-end. Mom and I were in Kroger's and I got a call it was the pediatrition. Rickie's sweat test came back elevated. I felt so dizzy, I thought I was going to throw up. So, do you think he has it? "Yes it was 97 and 98.

You know I still didn't think he had it. It surely was a mistake! Will finish this tomorrow. Good night for now. Carey
