Today's Run

Today was a lot of fun. Got the kids off to school and went on my run. Although it was a bit different this time! I met Mandy, a photographer for the Detroit Free Press. She was great--it was heady having someone drive in front of you, just to stop in the middle of the road and take your picture. All the while I'm pretending I don't see her and just 'on my run'.

I'm still trying to figure out why they're doing a story on me...

I was cracking up though while I was running, trying to look cool and everything. She followed me for quite a ways. I naturally wanted to stop a couple of times but my ego got in the way, and I kept on running. I had a killer workout today!

Talking to me?

I received a phone call today and it really caught me off guard. A reporter from the Detroit Free Press called and wanted to interview me. She wanted to talk to me about running the Mackinaw Bridge and also my life!

They are sending photographers over tomorrow morning, while I run. Pretty cool huh?

I'll update you tomorrow.

Still wondering why? * Hmmmmm*

Love,

Carey

Record Day!

Today is a record day!

A record for what you might say?

Well, this happens to be the longest stretch of time that Rickie has not coughed!

My mind allows me to think about other things-maybe for an hour or two. But, this is huge for me. Almost like Rickie is normal. Mind you, he has treatments everyday still for 30 minutes at a time. Yet, this is all doable. He's able to run and play with his friends, laugh without coughing up a lung! (figuratively speaking of course) haha

We have so much to be thankful for. We never appreciated how precious our health was until it's taken away. Or have a child with a life shortening disease and see how quickly you appreciate good health.

I am thankful for everyday that we can love, laugh and play and build memories. I hope that everyone that reads this post is thankful for something in their life...(I'm sure they are)

I just have to be reminded, at times to take the good with the bad, and move forward always smiling and to be thankful.

Love you guys,

Carey

Six people that I am very thankful for!

Where do you go?

Sometimes people have dreams-day dreams and dreams you have from a sound sleep. You wake-up one morning and think, " boy, I loved that dream." I really want to go back there.

This is my dream, when I've gone through low times in my life. I choose to go here. I searched the Internet and found what it might look like. Not exactly, the cottage I want to go to, but close. I go here when I want peace and quiet in my life. To just ponder on my decisions and choices I've made. Very spiritual at times.

I'm sure others have places they might go when feeling down or reflective. If anyone would like, share where you might go. Or if you don't do this think about it. You can bring anyone you'd like to your place. I suppose this could be your second life in your head. Just a thought it works for me. :)

Can I Talk?

I need to vent...

I read on a daily basis cfhusband.blogspot.com. The most beautiful love story and testament of faith I have ever seen. You just have to read it.

Here comes the venting part: when people comment on other peoples blogs it's their opinion...and there was a comment recently on Nathan's blog that really upset me. I'm sure if you read it as well you'll know what I'm talking about. Do not want to give that person any time here either.

Just want you to know Nathan and Trish that you're the real deal, 99.9999 percent of the people reading your story know that...that person that said, otherwise makes me really mad! It was so mean spirited! Just had to say this to get it off my chest.

Back To The Future....30 years later!!

This would be moi on my horse (poco ken sunset)
about 31 years ago! It's hard to believe that you had a life before marriage and kids. Sometimes it's hard for kids to believe that their parents, weren't always parents.

I can safely say that Poke was my very best friend, he knew everything about me. I spent a lot of time in the barn grooming him and telling him all of my secrets. :)

This was probably one of the best times of my life. And for that I thank my parents. And all the people back then, in my life "thank you" I'll always remember the wonderful times.

Rickie our Hero (revisited)

State Finals!

Tomorrow is Chloe's State Finals for Destination Imagination. Unfortunately, Chloe went to bed last night, not feeling all that well. It's not like a soccer or lacrosse game where your teammates have you covered if you miss. Each girl has a part and if one is missing your done. I guess they could practice and try to go on without the missing part but....:( Lets hope Chloe wakes up this morning and especially Saturday feeling better.

It seems that whenever one of my kids have a major event in their life they get sick. Coincidental? Doctors always tell you it's stress, has that ever happened to you? I've gone to the doctors before after being sick for some reason or other and their answer is "I think your under too much stress"

Me-"OK" well, thanks, I'll go home and figure it out. Then your going home feeling stupid because obviously-ITS IN YOUR HEAD! Why do they do that? Can they not come up with something better? Apparently not! Sorry, I'm being a bit facetious but, how does someone take the stress out of their life? "OK, which kid needs to go?" Ha ha

Anyway, good news is that we dropped the car off to Ali and she's going for an interview today at Southwest Solutions! Not a paying job but a volunteer position. If I haven't said lately, I am so proud of her she's going to school (college) working a job and trying to volunteer...her plate is full. :)

Speaking of dropping off cars. It was so weird following my child on the highway! Actually, surreal all I could think of is, that's my kid ahead of me on the highway. I had NO control over the other cars and no one better make a move. My stomach was in knots. (speaking of stress!)

We made it of course and I could breath a sigh of relief when she got into my car and I once again could be in control. Or keep her safe. I think it's harder as they get older not easier. My ramblings are over so I'll go wake up kids!

Best Grill Ever!

A friend of mine sent me pictures of this amazing grill. What's so great about this grill is that he made it with his son! It has a built in refrigerator, notice the venting out the side and the great masonry work. Plus the beautiful decorating his wife did!

If you're a grill master such as myself, and my father you would drool over this grill. Plus, I might add it's located in Southern California to boot. Ahhhhh, while we're stuck here in MI, had a bit of warm weather last week and snow flurries this past weekend. Yes, you heard me right snow flurries! I have checked the weather, and we are supposed to have warmer weather this week-high in the mid 50's to 60! So, we can grill out without our coats and mittens on!

Have a great Monday, and I'm sure if you'd like he could send you his plans for this fabulous grill!

Love ya,

Carey

WISHES-DREAMS

I ran across this picture of Chloe's and Rickie's birthday...(they both have the same birthday) Of course when you blow out your candles you have to make a wish, Chloe being the perfectionist that she is, was very distressed about making a wish.

The slim chance that your wish might come true, you better make it right. We have all heard the saying-be careful what you wish for, it might come true. She of course had to have the right wish. She eventually blew out her candles and thought of a wish. Never found out if it came true or not. My point is, is that we can learn a lesson from Chloe.

1. Don't cry over wishes!

2. Take your time, cake taste good with wax on top.

3. There is always stars to wish on. (she wished upon a star every night with Ali)

4. There is always your next birthday.

Seriously, we have all made wishes, and they don't always come true-but, we have dreams and we can make them come true, and don't ever stop dreaming...it makes us childlike. And who wants to grow up, certainly not me.

Love you guys!

LOST IN THOUGHT (today)

Picture of the kids in Lawton (yellow house)
I just have more to say today-do you ever think about 'What if's'? What if I went to a different school? What if I didn't do this or that? And then let yourself go in that direction, in your mind of course...

I have been doing that lately. Just thought I'd bring up the subject and throw it out there.

Have to work Outside :)

Spring is here and I have to get to work outside! That being said I will not be here:( for a while. I'm sure ya'll can wait for me, and check back occasionally.

Email me and keep me updated to what's going on with you.

Carey

Friday

Today is Friday! How was that? I read quite a few blogs, and they seem to be a lot more interesting than this one.

Not too much going on here at the Geyer's. Which is probably a good thing.

Ric and I, are going to a CF fund-raiser Saturday. A black tie affair. So, you know what that means I had to go dress shopping! Not that I really like to shop, so it was quite a chore for me. I was successful, found a beautiful long black dress! Form fitting on top and full from the waist on down. It's very poofie. Never have worn a dress like this before. Tried to find a picture on the internet but couldn't fine just the right one. Will post a picture of Ric and I after or during the event.

The kids are staying here and we're spending the night there. Coming home on Sunday. Boy, a night out woo-hoo.

I have to say it really helps when you shop with someone as helpful as Hannah! She was amazing and encouraging to shop with! I had her loaded up with dresses. It reminds me of when I used to shop with my Mother! We would laugh so hard at the things we tried on. It was actually more fun than purchasing clothes. I'm sure the sales clerks thought we were nuts! I remember laughing so hard I felt like crying!!! :) Yes, Mother we had fun!

So, yeah Hannah was a big help. Love her:)

Until tomorrow or should I say Sunday. Can't wait to show you how we looked!

Love, Carey

Marathon Again?

Here are two finish line photos of the Detroit Marathon in 2004! I have since ran two more half Marathons, but not another full Marathon. So, what do you think guys, can I do it again? I'm thinking...yes! I'm older and hopefully, smarter at training this time around. Although I'd like to add that Nancy and I trained pretty good for our first Marathon!

I'm open for comments and advice from anybody.

Most of you know my circumstances so please take that into consideration. i.e. Rickie's needs, injuries I've had in the past etc...

Take care and thanks!

Carey

p.s. I guess you could say spring fever has bitten me! :)
