Time

This was just yesterday! (not really!)

Well, today is Friday-- already! I know most people are celebrating the fact that it is Friday, hence TGIF was coined. But wait, wasn't it just Tuesday?

Just yesterday my daughter Ali was born...she's almost 20!

Not even two years later Chelsea was born, and then Hannah, Gavin, Chloe! And six and half years ago my baby--Rickie.

I remember talking to my Grandmother once, (not that we didn't talk at other times) and she said to me.."Carey, I'm old, and I have to tell you, I just don't know how this happened."

I knew what she meant--but, didn't quite get it. I get it now. I'm 48 and the number sounds sooooo old to me, yet, I don't feel any different, than I did in my twenties! Yes, I've learned a lot--gained experience, but the core person who I am is the same.

So, I'm 48 already and I got here pretty darn fast...will I blink and be 68.....78....etc. Probably.

I need to enjoy every bit of my life, because you just don't know what tomorrow brings really. When Rickie was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis--it was a total wake-up call. Enjoy all the time you have with your family and friends--plug in to your kids. Talk to them--get in their face and find out who they are! Not just as your child, but as a person, what are they really like?

I have to tell you...I have the most incredible children--their funny, smart, loving, compassionate, smart alecks, (sometimes) and you know I like that about them. Their
not push overs...

I have to be the luckiest girl in the world! :)

Even if I am getting old!

p.s. It's Friday Foto Finish go to Candid Carrie

First of all, I thought that picture really was yesterday and I couldn't figure out why you got that dressed up yesterday to take a picture, but now I totally get it. Do you want to run it in my Friday Foto Frenzy? Let me know.

Alright, I get the enjoy all the time you can ... When my daughter went from "degenerative" to "terminal" it is beyond words. It wasn't even a wake up call because I thought I was already awake enough. It was more like a "Carrie Sue, get a new motto" moment.

So, life is too short to be melancholy, or somber, or even too reflective. We kick ass, we talk silly, we tickle each other until we pee. Every thing we do, we do as large as we can for that moment in time. Not like dangerous risk takers ...

Ah, I just noticed I am babbling, I am so sorry. Love the pic, love your blog, love your philosophy, love you, Carrie Sue.

I too was a little confused at first about the picture being taken yesterday but once I started reading I got it. I am still in my 20's but the past 4 years have gone so fast and I think it's children that bring that on.

I totally understand the "live in the moment". My father passed away when I was 5 from Cancer and I remember all of it so I learned at a very young age not to take things and more importantly people for granted. Since then I have tried to live my life accordingly and I hope my children do the same.

This post makes me want to go into both of my kids' bedrooms and breathe in their breath, sleep witht them both, rub their cheeks until I fall asleep, feel their warm bodies next to mine, smell their stinky feet, run my fingers through their hair.

I'll miss these babies when they are no longer babies. But I am looking forward to their lives -- no matter what that means.

XO,
Heidi

Isn't it amazing how time goes. But I am happy to be approaching the empty nester stage.

Loved all the ages and also glad to have them over. :)

And I have a grandson.

I love this. We celebrated my little girls third birthday today and I already feel time passing too fast. Has it really been ten years since high school? Am I really a mom to three kids? (and how did you end up with 6!?! I can't even imagine!) Scary to think I am going to blink and my kids are going to be 20 and I'll be re-posting the post you just wrote. Where does the time go? Thanks for the advice...I'll do my best to follow it!
